Prior to becoming the laboratory Manager for Awanui Labs Taranaki Sally held a number of management and scientific roles at Taranaki Medlab.

Hayley is a qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-analytical Technician with over 25 years experience in Taranaki and Manawatu.
Specimen Services is the heart of the laboratory, a busy fast paced area requiring attention to detail, it includes call centre, data entry, receipt and preparation of samples for the lab, troubleshooting and dispatch of external send-away samples.
Hayley assists with the Quality Management and accreditation processes of the laboratory. and also oversees our busy logistics team.

Matthew completed his BMLS at Massey University in 1996. He worked at LabPlus at Auckland Hospital in Immunology, Virology and Molecular Genetics until 2003. During this time he completed an MSc. in Molecular genetics and had a particular focus on cancer genetics.
In 2003 Matthew and family moved back to his home town of New Plymouth to take up a role in Microbiology and Immunology at Taranaki Medlab. He worked at Taranaki Medlab until 2020, from 2016 he was the Head of the Microbiology department.

Born and raised in Taranaki, Nicole graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS with distinction) from Massey University in 2007.
She is qualified in all 3 core laboratory disciplines (Haematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology) but has enjoyed making Haematology her specialty focus since 2014.
Gareth Ashton

Gareth has 23 years’ experience in Anatomic Pathology, working in laboratories around the North Island, and 2 years in the UK. This involved all levels of Histology work and some exposure to non-gynae cytology and mortuary techniques.
The Histology work started in Wellington hospital where he trained as a technician. Travel to the UK broadened and developed his knowledge of more challenging techniques putting him on track to extend himself further. After retraining to become a Scientist, work at Palmerston North and Wellington honed his skills before moving to Taranaki Medlab for the HOD position. He has been now been working here since 2012.
