We are pleased to announce that Awanui Laboratory Nelson / Marlborough is now prepared to fully transition to the Bio Merieux blood culture system. This transition will involve the utilisation of differently shaped blood culture bottles, along with a modified adaptor.

Please note that the new adaptor allows for the continued use of blood tubes.

In light of this change, we kindly request all hospital wards, departments, and community referrers to return any remaining old-style blood culture bottles by Friday 26 April 2024. In exchange, we will provide the new bottles and adaptors for your use. Please send the old bottles to the Microbiology department at either Nelson or Wairau Hospital Laboratory for replacement.
